S fotogrametričnimi postopki lahko pridobimo oblak točk visoke gostote, celo preko 100 točk/m2 na območjih, kjer ima površje dobro izraženo teksturo. Poleg prostorskih koordinat (x, y, z) vsaka točka oblaka nosi tudi podatek o svoji barvi, kot jo ima v naravi. Ker ima vsaka točka oblaka enoznačno določeno koordinato, je možno določiti poljuben zorni kot pogleda na zajeto situacijo. Še več, za bolj nazorno predstavo oblaka točk lahko izdelamo t.i. “fly-through animacijo”, ki predstavlja potovanje virtualne kamere skozi oblak točk.
